Rare Stamps: Values, Record Prices and What Sold

Every price on these pages comes from a recorded sale, with the auction house and the date attached. That matters, because most writing about rare stamps repeats figures with no source and no year. The pages fall into three groups: the individual rarities people search for by name, the overview pages that rank them by what they actually made, and the practical pages on collecting, catalogue numbers and getting a collection appraised. If you are checking a stamp of your own, start with identification rather than valuation. Almost all old stamps are common, and the ones that are not are separated from them by a perforation count, a watermark or a grill rather than by age.
